Nightfly Astrophotography Introduction
Downeast Maine is a wonderful place to get great photographs of the night sky. I use the venerable Pentax 35mm and 6x7 product line to capture the beauty of the Cosmos. All images here are captured on traditional film emulsions to produce vivid details in wide field views. I hope you enjoy the images. Jim Cormier

I began exploring the night sky in the late 70's and started taking photographs of the night skies in 1984. The methods I use today are little different from those early years, however there are a wonderful array of computer techniques that enhance traditional film astrophotography. While employing these tools, I keep in mind that the image should look natural and not overly processed.
My biggest asset are the naturally dark skies I live under. I can routinely see stars well beyond the 6th magnitude and the structure of the Milky Way is striking. This alone allows me to capture the night with great clarity.
